The word "faith" can refer to a religion itself or to religion in general. As with "trust", faith involves a concept of future events or outcomes, and is used conversely for a belief "not resting on logical proof or material evidence." Informal usage of the word "faith" can be quite broad, and may be used in place of "trust" or "belief." Faith is often used in a religious context, as in theology, where it almost universally refers to a trusting belief in a transcendent reality, or else in a Supreme Being and/or this being's role in the order of transcendent, spiritual things. Faith is in general the persuasion of the mind that a certain statement is true. It is the belief and the assent of the mind to the truth of what is declared by another, based on his or her authority and truthfulness. The English word faith is dated from 1200–50, from the Latin fidem, or fidēs, meaning trust, akin to fīdere, which means to trust. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What is the difference between hope and faith? Q. Hope and Faith If hope is not rooted in faith are you not wasting energy throwing empty hope to the wind? And if your hopes are grounded in faith, doesn't your faith eliminate the need to hope? Since faith is believing in things unseen and claiming them as done? Yet here I sit filled with faith and belief hoping. Does my hope make a mockery of both and offend the One who hears? Asked by hot mama mia! - Thu Sep 18 08:13:38 2008 - - 22 Answers - 0 Comments A. Faith is the belief in the evidence of things not seen. Faith also has no time line Faith, your faith is not immediately transferable ...but it can rub off on those close to you. In many religions it is asked of you to take a "leap of faith" to believe in the teachings. Yet, is this really a good thing? Doesn't taking a leap of faith cause you to simply belief something not on fact, but more on blind loyalty? It seems like when you do this you narrow your view so greatly that you ignore all the facts that might contradict you belief merely because you are going off of faith that it is true. Yet, when should your faith run out so you can see if your leap was in the right direction? Asked by Smurfcatcher - Thu Jun 26 02:30:38 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. All religions require a leap of faith but that does not mean that the leap is blind. When one considers the great scholars and thinkers who have made the leap and have argued cogently the reasons for doing so, one may well feel comfortable in making the leap. It is a bit like precedent in the law, it has been argued so many times and considered from so many angles it is believed to be right. But always remember to maintain a degree of doubt for like the precedent of "Plessy v Ferguson," the leap of faith just might land you in the wrong place. Q. What grounds do I believe 1 Corinthians 15: 1-5, believing the redemption work of God in Christ to receive the gift of God 's faith, or do i just say i believe everything, though i may not know every thing, that faith is, faith in God, the faith that is from God? Ephesians 2: 8 states that faith is the gift of God along with grace, so what is the FAITH? Asked by Jay - Fri Oct 16 12:47:31 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Faith is believing God. Of course, you have to believe God exists to put faith in what he states. When it comes to having faith in Jesus, we have the eyewitness account of over 500 people around 30 A.D. who saw the resurrected Christ and many saw him ascend to heaven. That would be sufficient grounds for believing that Jesus was raised from the dead and returned to heaven. So, we are not asked to believe something that nobody can testify to. It is the meaning of those events that the New Testament explains, and the significance of why Jesus died and rose is also explained by Jesus himself. Paul's statements in 1 Cor. 15:1-5 is the barest minimum anyone must have faith (belief) in to be considered a Christian. That is the starting point… [cont.] Answered by Sasi - Fri Oct 16 13:02:23 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "faith" Quotations about faith ContentsSourced
